Month in Review: April 2022

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

Zoopla Work

Apart from my usual responsibilities, I continued supporting the mobile app team in helping them define their quality and testing strategy and we've also come up with a list of minimum devices and versions to support by looking at Google Analytics. I also did a session with them about Exploratory Testing and explained the benefits of it, how to use heuristics and shared with them how I structure my testing notes.

The Quality and Risk Communities of Practice also took over this month's engineering meetup! It was great to see the progress from each different subgroup and share that to the wider company.

Community Work

This month, Cypress released version 9.6.0 which allows for testing multiple domains. I wrote Testing Multiple Domains with Cypress to share how you can use the new command `cy.origin()` to visit multiple super domains within your Cypress test.

I also had the privilege to chat with Lewis Prescott about my role as a Quality Engineering Manager and discuss all things about contract testing as part of his podcast show. If you're interested to hear how contract testing can be leveraged to test your APIs and microservices, then I recommend having a listen to his show which you can find here - How to start API Contract Testing series.

Since being the co-organiser of the Cypress UK meet up group, we created a Slack channel for the community to network and ask any specific Cypress help. However, this has not been maintained for quite some time so I've made the decision to delete this workplace and let the community know to join the Cypress Discord Community instead which is more active and maintained by the Cypress team.

Personal Development

🏋🏻‍♀️ Consistent with my daily moves and exercise. I also started attending different classes from my local gym.

📚 This month, I read Agile Testing Condensed again by Lisa Crispin and Janet Gregory. This is a really must have book for all the software testers out there. It's jam packed with all useful information that you need to work effectively within your teams.

🎧 Consistently listened to my daily podcast episodes.

April Favourites

April was a month for rest and spending time with loved ones, family and friends. My highlight has to be my mum's 60th birthday celebration and we surprised her by not letting her know that my cousin flew all the way from Canada to celebrate her birthday. It's been a good month definitely and here's a few of my other favourites:

  • Taking Gabby to KidSpace during Easter half term

  • Unplanned day trip to Windsor

  • Trip to the Cotswolds 💜

  • Eating lots of lasagne

  • Finally buying a new camera so I can get back to doing photography again

  • Exciting new opportunity that I will announce soon! 😍

Photowalk

I'll be adding a new section here to show a few photos from photo walks that I'll be doing as I get back into doing photography as a hobby again.

This month, I walked around Central London and here's a few of my favourite photos.
